'Thread Veins' is the common name given to unsightly purple/red veins under the surface of the skin, usually on the face or legs.
Sclerotherapy is a non surgical treatment for their permanent removal.
What is it? Treatment comprises of injecting an irritant soluton directly into the vein with a very fine needle. This causes inflammation to the inside of the vein which narrows its diameter. This in turn allows less blood to flow through the vein making it less visible. Each treatment will narrow the vein further until they close down completely. The vein will then die and be absorbed by the body like a bruise is.
Does it hurt? There is a mild discomfort rather like an insect bite.
How many treatments do I need? On average each vein or cluster takes about three treatments to go completely. Sometimes more sometimes less depending on the extent of the condition. Not every vein has to be injected as the solution will travel through the network.
How long does it take? Treatments take between 30 and 60 minutes with an interval of one month between treatments.
What happens afterwards? Immediately afterwards treated areas can be red, bumpy and a little swollen rather like a nettle rash. This usually settles within a few hours. Make-up can be worn the following day and unlike diathermy and laser treatments there is no scarring.
Will they come back? No!!!! Once the vein has died it cannot re-grow. However if you are prone to this condition others develop.
Treatments are from £185.00 per session, depending on the extent of the problem.
How many sessions required will be discussed at the £30 consultation with your medical practitioner
